Ensuring Your Pet Stays Healthy This Summer

It’s time for you and your furry friend to have some summer fun–well, almost. Before you can set out on your next summer adventure, you’ll need to ensure that your pet is properly prepared. Here are some of our top tips for getting your pet summer-ready!

Update Flea & Tick Protection

Humans aren’t the only ones that are more active during the summer. Pests like ticks and fleas tend to multiply during the summer. Plus, you and your pet will probably be spending more time outside – which means more exposure to these insects. Make sure your pet is up-to-date on all of their vaccinations and medications, including their flea and tick prevention. If you’re not sure how current your pet’s medications are, please feel free to contact your veterinarian.

Watch Heat Levels

Heat stroke is very serious, and it can have negative consequences for both you and your pet. Always check the weather report before taking your pet outside. If your pet does go outside, It’s a good idea to make sure you’re walking them on a cool surface – common street materials like asphalt can get extremely hot during the summer after sitting in the sun all day, and your pets don’t have the benefit of shoes like you do.

Stay Hydrated

If you’re taking your pet on a hike or another outdoor adventure, always bring enough clean water to go around. There are plenty of handy tools available, such as collapsible bowls and water bottles, that make it easy to take enough water for both you and your pet on the go.
